"Kaw Indian Reservation" Dan Freese, Art Treks, Arts Council Council Grove, KS

Dan Freese is a gifted painter living in Council Grove, Kansas. His children have inherited his artistic gifts and they often share their experiences together by participating in the Plein Classes I teach through the Arts Council in Council Grove, Kansas. This powerful painting is about the endless horizons on the Kaw Indian Reservation near Council Grove. The views are uninterrupted and seem to go on forever. Life on the vast praries of the West are found in the expression of color in the landscape letting us know the wild flowers are in bloom. The light of the sun is expressed in the bold use of bright yellows in the deep prarie grasses. We are not sure where the land ends and the sky begins. The clouds are strongly stated by his use of powerful brush strokes. Subtle violets and soft yellow support the billowing clouds above the beautiful colors of the land which seem to be reflected in the clouds. The vision of the artist is expressed in the beautiful undefined nature of the color work.

Draw at the National Grasslands" Emily Freese Art Treks, Arts Council Council Grove, KS

Emily has just graduated from high school and is on her way to Kansas University. She has been studying Art in school and through classes with the Arts Council in Council GroveKansas with her Father, Dan Freese and brother Jeffrey Freese. Her work is full of powerful dynamic color a. Her brush work is bold and strong and demonstrates the power of her artistic vision. Powerful brushwork lets us know the wind is blowing through this valley at the National Grasslands and the distant tree line lets us know there are bluffs leading to the expansive horizon. The sky is a brilliant cerulean blue and the sun is expressed in large areas of bold yellows in the fields. This is a wonderful painting and encapsulates the entire feeling we experience in this vast, never ending landscape.
